The Guild is certified by the Office of Professional Employees International Union, (OPEIU) www.opeiu.org, Affiliated Union of the AFL-CIO (www.aflcio.org) as NGAOM, OPEIU Guild # 62. Affiliation with the nation’s primary labor union organization enhances our profession’s credibility and empowers our political impact.

The Guild’s political and educational achievements to date include:

  • Inclusion of acupuncturists as physician providers in the California’s Workers Comp system (largest worker’s comp system in the US).
  • Writing the California Acupuncture Medical Treatment Guidelines.
  • Development and teaching of the Chinese Medicine Orthopedics Pain Management Specialty Training course.
  • Development and implementation of a primary care professional level doctorate (www.nomaa.org)
  • Successful lobbying record with the California Acupuncture Board (governs 35% of the acupuncturists in the US).
  • Testifying before members and committees of the US House of Representatives, the US Senate and multiple state legislatures.

Our Goals Are:

  1. Enhancing the revenue of Guild members significantly, year on year, through increased patient flow from state professional and labor union members, through improved standards and through improved clinical results.
  2. Increasing the participation of the Chinese medicine and acupuncture professional community in mainstream healthcare, with the same practice and compensation privileges as other healthcare providers;
  3. Increasing the proportion of primary care licensed acupuncturists in the United States through competency-based educational programs and verified performance standards;
  4. Providing safe, competent, physiologically-based needling therapy to the American medical consumer to help reduce healthcare costs and to meet consumer demand for effective, drugless medical care.

The lobbying efforts of the Guild and the OPEIU will enable the Guild to promote the primary care model of practice and education nationwide and ensure our participation in the Obama Healthcare Plan.  We already have offers of political support from California and Connecticut Labor Councils.

No other organization in America is fighting for the elevation of our profession like the NGAOM.
